A while ago, Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) released the nominees for the 24th edition of the event. Various musicians and producers recieved nominations respectively through their hard work recognized by the board.

The likes of Sarkodie, DJ Azonto, Camidoh, Celestine Donkor, Piesie Esther, Lasmid, Malcolm Nuna, Stonebwoy, Kidi, Kuami Eugene, Black Sherif and many other prominent artists also bagged nominations respectively.

After the nominees were released, some people commended the VGMA board for choosing the “right people” for the right category. However, some Ghanaians and music entrepreneurs have not been happy with the board as some people they were expecting were nominated even though they meet whatever criteria the board uses. For example, most people were expecting Kwame Nut to be part of the VGMA Unsung category since he met the criteria and more but it did not happen.

After the issue have been dragged on social media for a while, a spokesperson from the VGMA board was invited for an interview to be questioned on the matters around the nominations. According to him, the reasons for choosing nominees are plenty and he was not able to keep all in his mind when coming to the show.

Many people did not side the spokesperson per what he said on live TV.
